Polly Paulusma, chanteuse britannique, propose un concert le 22 juin 2022 de 20h30 à 22h au Qu4tre de l’Université d’Angers (4 ALLEE FRANCOIS MITTERRAND, 49100 ANGERS).
Ce concert gratuit et ouvert à tout public fait partie du dispositif « Formes Brèves Nomades » en lien avec le colloque international « Nomadic Texts and Subjectivites : Metamorphic Itineraries in Angela Carter’s Works » du CIRPaLL. Ce colloque, organisé par Karima Thomas et Michelle Ryan, a pour objet d’étude l’œuvre de l’autrice britannique Angela Carter et aura lieu du 22-24 juin 2022 à la maison de la recherche Germaine Tillion. En 2003, Polly Paulusma a enregistré son premier album "Scissors In My Pocket" dans sa cabane de jardin. La maison de disques One Little Indian (maison de Björk) l'a signée et "Scissors..." a été immédiatement et largement acclamé par la critique lors de sa sortie internationale en 2004.
Paulusma a joué dans le monde entier, assurant les premières parties de Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, The Divine Comedy et Marianne Faithfull. Elle a joué à Glastonbury, T in the Park et Cambridge Folk, entre autres festivals, et a effectué de nombreuses tournées aux États-Unis et en Italie, ainsi que dans son pays natal, le Royaume-Uni.
Elle a ensuite enregistré et sorti deux autres albums studio et trois albums-sœurs correspondants (les titres des albums-sœurs sont des anagrammes du disque principal auquel ils sont associés), une bande originale de film ('Clear Lake').
En 2012, Paulusma a fondé Wild Sound, un label indie-folk qui a publié les œuvres de neuf autres artistes indie-folk avant que Paulusma ne le revende à One Little Independent afin de faire son doctorat en 2016.
En 2020, son doctorat terminé, Paulusma a sorti " Invisible Music : folk songs that influenced Angela Carter ", l'expression auditive de sa thèse de doctorat qui a étudié comment le chant folklorique dans le Bristol des années 1960 a influencé l'écriture d'Angela Carter. Sa thèse a été transformée en un livre à paraître intitulé Angela Carter and Folk Song : Invisible Music, Prose and the Art of Canorography, qui sera publié par Bloomsbury Academic dans le cadre d'une série de livres sur les femmes-écrivains du monde entier, sous la direction de Marie Mulvey-Roberts et Jennifer Gustar. Le neuvième album de Polly Paulusma, "The Pivot On Which The World Turns", sortira sur Wild Sound/One Little Independent à la fin du mois de septembre de cette année. L'album “soeur”, "When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt", suivra en 2023.

In 2003, Polly Paulusma self-recorded her debut album 'Scissors In My Pocket’ in her garden shed. record label One Little Indian (home to Björk) signed her up and ‘Scissors...' received immediate and widespread critical acclaim upon its international release in 2004.
Paulusma was catapulted round the world, supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, The Divine Comedy, and Marianne Faithfull. She played Glastonbury, T in the Park and Cambridge Folk amongst a host of other festivals, touring the USA and Italy extensively as well as her native UK.
She went on to record and release two more studio albums and three corresponding sister-albums (the titles of the sister-albums are anagrams of the main record with which they are associated), a film soundtrack (‘Clear Lake’).
In 2012 Paulusma founded Wild Sound, an indie-folk label which released work from nine other indie-folk artists before Paulusma sold it back to One Little Independent in order to do her PhD in 2016.
In 2020, her PhD complete, Paulusma released ‘Invisible Music: folk songs that influenced Angela Carter’, the audial expression of her PhD thesis which investigated how folk singing in 1960s Bristol influenced Angela Carter’s writing. Her thesis has been turned into the forthcoming book ‘Angela Carter and Folk Song: Invisible Music, Prose and the Art of Canorography’, to be published by Bloomsbury Academic as part of a series of books on global women writers edited by Marie Mulvey-Roberts and Jennifer Gustar. Paulusma’s ninth album, ‘The Pivot On Which The World Turns’ will be released on Wild Sound/One Little Independent at the end of September this year; its corresponding sister-album ‘When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt’ will follow in 2023.
